Zugleich wirkt das Handeln auf die Erkenntnis zurück. Es vertieft die Erkenntnis, korrigiert sie auch und führt sie weiter. Erkenntnis und Handeln bleiben daher laufend aufeinander bezogen und sind im Tiefsten eins. Sie sind das Gleiche, nur jeweils aus einem anderen Blickwinkel betrachtet. Sie haben im Blick, welches Handeln unseren Beziehungen dient. Sie haben im Blick, welches Handeln sie erweitert und vertieft und welches Handeln sie auf gute Weise auch beendet und löst.
In meiner bisherigen Tätigkeit wurde ich vor allem mit dem Familienstellen und der Psychotherapie in Verbindung gebracht. Aber die Einsichten, die mich zu dieser Tätigkeit geführt haben, waren in erster Linie philosophisch und wurden auf einem philosophischen Erkenntnisweg gewonnen. Dazu gehören zum Beispiel meine Einsichten über die Funktionen des Gewissens. Anders, als das Gewissen in der Psychotherapie, in der faith und in vielen weltanschaulichen Bewegungen gesehen wird, habe ich erkannt, dass das Gewissen vor allem der instinktiven Bindung an die eigene Gruppe dient. Diese Einsichten habe ich im Rahmen der Psychotherapie in vielfältiger Weise angewandt und überprüft und vertieft.
Inzwischen hat sich die Anwendung dieser Einsichten auch außerhalb der Psychotherapie als hilfreich erwiesen, nämlich überall dort, wo es um Beziehungen und um Beziehungskonflikte geht: In den Familien, in der Erziehung, in der Fürsorge und Pflege, in Unternehmen und in den Gemeinwesen im weitesten Sinn.
Es handelt sich hier um ein vorwiegend philosophisches Buch. Allerdings bleiben die überkommenen philosophischen Begriffe und die sich vorwiegend in Begriffen bewegende Vorgehensweise draußen vor. Hier geht es um eine lebendige Philosophie, die sich laufend an der Erfahrung orientiert und die aus der Erfahrung zu weiteren Einsichten führt. Sie steht im Dienst des Lebens und misst sich daran, inwieweit sie dem Leben dient.
